This section presents statistics on communication services, registration of motor vehicles, driver’s licenses and permits in force, vessel and cargo movement, air-traffic and aircraft operation. The number of telephones dropped from about 10,700 to 10,400, while the number of cell phones went up from 2,100 to 2,250 between 2003 and 2004. Internet services also increased. The number of subscribers went up from 1,400 in 2002 to 1,500 in 2003, and then to 1,700 subscribers in 2004. The total number of registered motor vehicle has continually increased from 7,543 in 2002 to 8,122 in 2004. The number of licenses although slightly dropped in 2002 recorded at over 5,400 in 2004. A total of 1,000 vessels entered the territory in 2003 versus 953 vessels in 2004. Tonnage of cargo brought into the territory amounted to over 900,000 in 2003 and 500,000 tons in 2004. Of the 1,000 vessels in 2003, 9 cruise ships, 163 freighters, 1 military ship, and 590 were fishing boats. Of the 953 vessels that entered the territory in 2004, there were 5 cruise ships, 168 freighters, 2 military ships, and 573 fishing boats. A total of 5,135 flights were recorded at the Pago Pago International Airport carrying 77,243 passengers in 2003. In 2004, a total of 4,848 flights were recorded. These flights carried 74,088 passengers. There were 324 flights between Pago Pago and Honolulu with an average of 27 flights per month. On the other hand there were 3,173 flights between Pago Pago and Samoa with an average of 264 flights per month.
